The Impacts of terrorism in SG/ 1:03:00 PM Impacts of terrorism in Singapore PSYCHOLOGICAL IMPACTS In Singapore, psychologic defence consists of the will to defend the nation. Some of the effects are:
SOCIAL IMPACTS
POLITICAL IMPACTS 1) Tightening of controls in Singapore ECONOMIC IMPACTS
3)Further level: Stock market will suffer and oil/food prices may plummet. 4)If transportation places were to be hit, then movement of goods would not be possible and the interruptions in transportation will result in detrimental implications. E.g. impacts on supply chain industry will be severe as it rely greatly on the efficiency of goods transportation 5)Overall, all these deter economic growth. |

ACTIVITIES/ 8:03:00 PM here is a list of some notable attacks by the JI: October 2002: A triple bombing in Bali killed over 200 people. August 2003: Bombing of the J.W. Marriott Hotel in Jakarta, Indonesia. September 2004: Australian embassy bombing in Jakarta that killed ten and wounded hundreds is thought to be a JI attack Our perspective on this terrorist group: We feel that because the people who initiated the activities are often brothers and hence they can easily influence each others' thoughts and actions. We also feel that there is a controversy in their thinking as we heard that they mentioned all Westerns are murderers, however, they often end up being the ones killing innocent people who have beliefs of their own. |
OBJECTIVES/ 8:02:00 PM In essence, JI has a jihadist vision and wants to establish an Islamist state in the region, probably encompassing Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, the southern Philippines and southern Thailand. Group factions differ over how to achieve this goal: A minority group, led by Hambali, is interested in focusing on a broader anti-Western agenda similar to al Qaeda, and in effecting change in the near term….Opposing this faction is a majority group within JI, depicted as the "bureaucrats," that sees these tactics as undermining its preferred, longer term strategy of building up military capacity and using religious proselytization to create a mass base sufficient to support an Islamic revolution. |
